On June 13, 2026, the Chinese Club of Western New York (CCWNY) will once again field a team to compete in the 2026 Buffalo Dragon Boat Festival.
The Buffalo Dragon Boat Festival is organized by Hope Chest and held at Buffalo RiverWorks. Hope Chest is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting breast cancer survivors through physical rehabilitation, emotional support, and paddling programs. Proceeds from the event, together with community donations, will support breast cancer prevention, rehabilitation, and patient care programs.
For the CCWNY Dragon Boat Team, the festival is more than just a sporting competition. It is an important opportunity to bring the community together, celebrate Chinese culture, and showcase the spirit of the local Chinese-American community.
Over the past two years, the CCWNY Dragon Boat team has continued to improve and achieve new milestones. In 2024, the team advanced through a field of 35 competing teams, earned fourth place in the semifinals, qualified for the championship race, and ultimately captured third place in Division A, which is the best results in CCWNY’s Dragon Boat Festival history. In 2025, the team built on that success, improving its race time from 1 minute 59 seconds to 1 minute 57 seconds and setting a new personal record.
Behind there achievements stands a long-time supporter of the Chinese community: Asia Food Market.
For many years, Asia Food Market has actively supported the growth of the local community.
